HydroBlank Trailer

This is my Trailer for the FMP project- HydroBlank. This trailer is also displayed at the physical showcase alongside my VR game experience prototype that is being held now at UAL – ‘Postgraduate Showcase 2021 Design and Screen School’. This has the same sound as my main background track used in the game experience prototype but with the added elements of some beats which match the background track at times but not the others and I have clashed the sound on purpose throughout the score especially after the middle mark and after. This is so that the player/listener feels a sense of displacement and thinks even a bit that “something is not right here” as that goes with the theme of my work which is partial horror.

Brief synopsis:

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity had to migrate to live underwater after certain mysterious elements took over the land above. You play as a government agent turned ‘the whistleblower’ who is on the run from the tyrannical new government. You must get from the lab which is your initial starting point with files containing information on the shadier division on said government on human experimentation to the ruins where you can be safe! The lab is located in the main city and you need to find a pub which has the entrance to the tunnels connecting different underwater ‘lands’ to the ruins located in the ‘outer land’ where you can meet the allies you are talking to ‘The Oracle’, a rebel faction that has risen to expose any and all truth but with a hidden motive of their own.

Week 12

Final Project and Thesis week 12: 15th November to 21st November

In the process of rigging an avatar
After the rig is complete
A short video with teleportation, place holder ‘grabbing the files from ground’ mechanics and teleportation between scenes.

Some creatures/npc I may add to my experience. They are rigged and ready to go with animations I like, have got them from the asset store and I think they go well with my own made 3D ‘experimented human’ monsters that I am planning on releasing to scene 3- the tunnels.

Alien looking fish creatures that can appear in scene 3 along with some other underwater creatures
Little robots
Big robots

testing out the water system (2)

Now using the system on my pub scene below! I love it!!

The above caustics look cool but here’s a different caustic effect now on Scene 4- the end scene (the ruins), as experimentation/practice. I changed the caustic size/flow/how changing the script effects it basically.

A look at another different caustic effect. Unfortunately this one is only available for HDRP (as it’s now too late to switch my whole project. I have even asked Zoe but my project is to stay on just 3D. Next time I will be sure to be careful when doing my project and switch to HDP/HDRP after practicing scene basic prototyping). But I put it here as it looks cool just to see.

Week 11

Final Project and Thesis week 11: 8th to 14th November

This week I looked at the scenes I have done so far in unity.

All of them can be considered WIP as I go about improving them/adding things to them.

I also realised here that I had done it all under unity 3D and not high definition render pipeline- as when I first started out I wanted to practice first in 3D rather than high definition but then forgot that it was set to 3D as I went about making my scenes. I tried to change all scenes (the whole) project to HDPbut unfortunately, it turned my game objects pink so I had to leave that idea and work on the project as a 3D project.

Anyway, the 4 scenes and the WIP of them-

One of my feedbacks on the previous version of my pub from Herman was that it was too crowded and looked more like a restaurant so I made the space more, well spacious. I have also constructed a much bigger bar for it and spread out the tables a lot more.
Here I wanted to mention, I tried out a dungeon level making system in unity which generates different dungeon (though in my case it’s the sewer). It lets you customise the wall, floor, doors and props, and much more using a node system and can also let you program it so that each time someone plays a game, the levels change (as shown above on example). If this is not too heavy for VR, I would like to try this out as part of my game.

Week 10

Final Project and Thesis week 10: 1st to 7th November

From ‘NEW WAVE Bodys of Change: Alternative Future”
Costas Kazantzis: Sivras Magazine

“Sivras is a hybrid publication consisting of a magazine that is accompanied by content in augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR)”

Wolf Groom: Synced: Augemented Reality Platfrom

“Synced is a conceptual augmented reality social platform that I developed based on my own insight and foresight research. The platform is centred around collaboration – users can add their own creativity to other user’s creations, sell their creations in their own curated digital shop and complete challenges that encourage activism. Ultimately, Synced is a space for futurists who desire decentralised spaces, community and a platform to share their voice and build a brand”

Tushar Rajan Sharma: Tomorrow

“TOMORROW is an interactive film installation which puts the viewer in an awkward situation. Amongst calm lights and beautiful haze, the film attracts the viewer to come near and admire the panoramic scenery. Our planet could have been this wonderful. But we all crossed the line. And in a jiffy, the film switches from a beautiful dreamy landscape to a dystopian future which is daunting and scary”

Annie Harmeston: Quick Fix

“Quick Fix, a short, but oh-so-sweet story of a user’s journey on the way to ultimate self-optimization. Quick Fix HQ, a glossy, contrived and overwhelmingly pink self-care sanctuary, welcomes the user to reach their full glowing potential at the click of a button. Both retro and modern, this hyper-stylised, playful short, illuminates the cross-over of consumerism, social media and feminine beauty ideals. With vibrant colours and an abundance of questionable products, director Annie Harmeston satirically questions the notion of self-care online.”

Samsara VR

I absolutely loved this VR experience and I especially really liked the use of voice-activated feedback which was used as a scene transition of sorts as after you speak, things would flow from within you in VR and the experience would change to the next scene. I found the concept really cool and the way that managed to fit in a very convoluted story/narrative in 20 minutes was brilliant. Definitely my favorite out of the VR tech lab/VR lab (LCC collab) as part of the festival.
